Style icons to me aren’t always necessarily derived from cool celebrities, films or musicians; sometimes inspiration comes from somewhere a lot closer to home. My mum has always dressed amazingly (even if I didn’t appreciate it at a younger age) and I think that definitely plays a part in my fashion taste today.
My love for the colour red only seems to increase. Each season I discover new ways to wear it and come across the most amazing statement item that really defines my personal ‘style’ at that time. The other day someone told me that red is my ‘colour’ and that was kind of an exact summary of the way I feel about it – I don’t think there’s ever been a stage where I’ve been comfortable enough to pull of a certain shade without questioning it, and certainly never one I’ve loved wearing so much.
I have just returned to Nottingham for my third (and final) round of uni life, which is super scary but also crazy exciting at the same time (sorry for missing a post last week, I’ve been busy working until the last minute at home and packing)! I’ve had the most incred two years here and met some of the most important people to me during my experience in Nottingham Trent, and I’m hoping this year will be as fun-filled and special as the others (let’s forget about the huuuuge work load and dissertation for a min). Although I’ll be trying my best academically and taking all opportunities that come my way, I want to hang on to the magical world that is university and therefore embrace the night life, ease of socialising and, of course, the cool and quirky city of Nottingham. On that note, I’d like to dedicate this post to third year, in a kind of ‘cheers’ to everything that’s brought me here so far and everything to come in the future! Here are some bits I’m lusting over this autumn that would really help coax me out of bed on those ugly hangover days…
I’ve recently been sucked into 90s TV series Twin Peaks, and not just for the cheesy romances, hilariously repetitive soundtrack and mild horror (about the only horror I can handle) surrounding the cosy little town. While the mystery of Laura Palmer and the dark secrets hidden in the storyline are gripping, the retro interiors and vintage outfits are what really have me hooked. I’ve been getting some seeeerious autumn / winter inspo just from watching it, and it’s making me want to stock up on all of the oversized, chunky knitwear and tartan that I can get my hands on. The colour scheme is dreamy for setting the tone for my autumnal wardrobe; showering me with all the browns, reds, golds and greens I could wish for.
Bonfire night is over, which means now it’s basically Christmas. And we all know what the festive period entails… SPARKLE. Yes, the party season is soon to be in full swing so it’s time to get the gladrags out and cover ourselves head to toe in glitter. This month I’ve compiled my list to include some statement looks that will be the centrepiece at any winter party, as well as a few essentials that are on my own Christmas list (lets hope I’ve made it on the nice list this year).
