Dotty

I am the worst person for saving money. EVER. Ask anyone close to me and they’ll confirm that my best intentions of putting money aside are unintentionally but inevitably swayed by McDonalds, trips to the pub, last minute nights out and, of course, a good old shopping spree. I’ve tried so many tactics that I’ve lost count (I even have a wish jar which are seemingly impossible to get into without breaking, but I’ve mastered the art of tempting any loose change out with a pair of tweezers…) and the little spur of the moment things always win me over before I can reach the end goal.

Lust List: November

Now the depths of autumn have set in, it’s time to get serious about winter style (and Christmas preparations). For me, once Halloween and bonfire night are over, the countdown has officially begun and the magic of shopping, decorating and traditions hang in the air. The dark nights signify cosy, festive evenings and as long as I’m wrapped up warm I love walking home to my flat past the sparkly shops with that cold, November feel getting me all excited! I’ve already willingly let Bublé back into my life to sooth me from uni stress with Christmas cheer, started scouting presents for friends and family and written my list to Santa – here’s a peek at what’s on it…

All things autumn

Halloween has always been the source of great excitement for me – from carving pumpkins with my Dad and getting dressed up to go trick-or-treating with my brother and sister, I’ve looked forward to it every year since I was little. Growing up I’d eagerly anticipate our annual trip to Asda to buy decorations and ponder what costume I would wear, stocking up on cherryade and sweets. Halloween parties have been my favourite way to celebrate for as long as I can remember (last year we threw a particularly cool one at our uni house with a live band) and dressing up becomes a little challenge for me. This time around I aimed to recreate Eleven from Stranger Things – you can see how I got on by checking out my Instagram!

Old School

For autumn this year, it seems a lot of past trends are circulating, giving the season an old-school, retro feel. Corduroy is one of the big ones (and certainly one of my favourites), becoming a mass revival of a classic, seventies style. For me, it’s a material that reminds me of childhood and sturdy, kids clothing, but simultaneously I conjure up an inspirational fashion image of a hippie in brown flares and a fringed waistcoat.

Humbug

The colour red is still going strong for the season, which I’m super happy about because I’ve just invested in these AMAZING boots from Pull & Bear at ASOS. I’ve never really considered myself a boot kinda gal – I’ve had essential Chelsea boots for colder months and my Doc Martens, but have always played it fairly safe in that aspect, whereas I’m usually quite bold on the footwear front. These little beauties are game changers, though, and I don’t think boots could get much bolder…

Welcome to my crib

My first ever post on this blog covered the decoration of my university room in halls, and it’s become kind of a tradition since to let you in and give a little online tour of the space I call my own – and my third and final year here in Nottingham is no exception. My taste has developed immensely from my freshers’ room, which I loved but was far more cluttered and densely decorated than now. Last year I toned it down a lot (which now I consider maybe too minimal for my taste) and although I also adored that room, I am super happy and impressed with the way my new one has turned out! I think my experiences so far have prepped me with the knowledge of what works and what doesn’t and definitely taught me how to make the most of a certain space. Granted, I’ve been lucky this year to have a slightly bigger room than previously, which has given me so many more furnishing opportunities (and means I can finally practice yoga in my own space!!) and a gigantic wardrobe helping me keep unsightly things tucked away and actually accommodate my ridiculous amount of clothes.
