Lust List: September

Anyone else feeling like we’ve skipped autumn altogether and jumped straight to winter? It’s bloody freezing! I thought I was prepared for the introduction of layers and darker evenings and looking ahead to Christmas, but after this past week of gloominess I’ve decided I’d be more than happy for summer to continue. Forever.

But alas, here we are thrown right in the deep end of autumn even though it’s only the start (did someone say Indian summer? No?), so I’ve rounded up some of the pretty things that are helping to soften the blow and make me a teeeny bit excited to embrace autumn.

1 – Shrimps x Habitat collab. For those of you, like me, who constantly drool over the incredible Shrimps faux fur coats, pretty chiffon dresses and pearly bags but would have to sell a few organs to buy any of it, the beautiful brand has teamed up with Habitat homewear to create some equally as cool home furnishings in the form of cushions and throws. I’m digging this doodle cushion that would brighten up my room while I hibernate for the colder months.

2 – Bella Freud x Fred Perry jumper. Every time I see something from this Fred Perry collection my heart skips a beat, and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a jumper that represents me more. Simple yet warm and inviting and boasting one of my favourite ever words… this will definitely keep me dancing through September and would look great teamed with my recently purchased leopard print skirt… (see Insta for more).

3 – Clueless Chic. I have seen some dreamy clueless-inspired checks about this summer, but nothing quite says back-to-school like this ASOS skirt suit. Wear now bare-legged with chunky white trainers and tube socks and later with tights and loafers layered over a turtle-neck.

4 – Chunky Trainers. Retro trainers will always be the ones for me, and nothing says old-school like Fila. I love the idea of bouncing around in this clumpy pair and a dress or tailored trousers while my feet are nice and snug.

5 – Cardies. Loving the vibe of cardigans as tops right now; it’s part subtly sexy and part grandad chic – and they go with everything. I’ve seen a few people sporting this delicious Other Stories piece and haven’t been able to find one I want more. When the fear of nipples freezing and falling off sets in, I’ll layer it over camis and under giant coats.

6 – Long, floaty dresses. The Vampire’s Wife collection of amazing dresses is giving me major inspo at the mo, but unfortunately I don’t have that kind of money to play around with. So I’ve scoured the high street for some similar styles that won’t break the bank, and H&M is coming up trumps. The floral pattern of this maxi dress is great for autumn and I’m envisioning it with heeled black boots.

7 – Vivienne Westwood Purse. One of those things I always have to invest in is a good purse. I just don’t see the appeal of a cheapy one when they just fall apart – after all it’s housing some of your most important belongings! My Calvin Klein purse has lasted me years but it’s sadly at the end of the road and I’m saving to replace it with this dreamy version by the queen that is Vivienne Westwood.

8 – Vinyl of the month. The soundtrack for those end of summer, back-to-school blues, The Lemon Twigs newest album is appropriately titled Go To School and captures that rebellious teenage feeling that we all get come September when sh*t gets real again, with funky instrumentals and cryptic lyrics in-between elevator music interludes. The mellow melodies and retro seventies feel to the album is so nostalgic and cool. ‘The Student Becomes The Teacher’ and ‘Small Victories’ are the ones I have on repeat in my autumn playlist to dance my way out of that September slump. Buy here at HMV.

So here’s to all the wonderful things that autumn brings: colourful leafy backdrops, wrapping up in pretty scarves, hot chocolate season, boots, knitwear and not having to religiously shave our legs. Hurrah!
Lily x
