Being back home in Wales sometimes catches me in a bit of a creativity rut, especially because the quiet town I live in is a world away from the busy city of Nottingham. The weather is unreliable (much like the most of the UK) and while in summer the rolling hills and pretty countryside is lovely, for now the surrounding wet and muddy fields aren’t an ideal setting for spring outfit shooting.
I mentioned in a recent post how refreshing I’ve found it recently to take the time to get lost in a familiar place and stumble across new areas, and that’s pretty much what we did for this shoot. Stuck for places to go we decided to have a wander round Crickhowell, a local town that we had dismissed as another small high street with nothing of interest, and surprised ourselves by finding cute alleyways and colourful houses. The skies held it together enough for me to finally bring out these incredible Mango mules and for us to have a pint in a beer garden by the river.
Mango officially have THE best sales – my coat, shirt and shoes are all from different seasonal reductions and were bargains. I’m really into yellow at the mo and the mustard colour of these mules look amazing teamed with a stripy blue shirt. I think they’re going to become my go-to beach sandals; they’re super comfy and effortlessly cool (although they tore my feat up when wearing them in).
I’m a bit obsessed with cropped, wide leg jeans and can’t seem to stop buying more of the same style – this dreamy black pair are from H&M and the reeeally high-waist is so flattering. Skinny black jeans are something I rarely wear and reserve for nights out or lounge days because, in all honestly, I find them a bit boring. But having some nice black denim is a wardrobe staple that goes with everything, so these are a great compromise that are way more up my street.
Classic blouses are something I never tire of (particularly stripes) and though I’ve had this one a while I still get excited to wear it – it has loads of little details that keep the style interesting. The wrap front is complimented so well with gold jewellery layered over and the flared sleeves contribute to the oversized, casual look I love. It’s crazy how different old pieces can look when styled up in fresh ways – normally I’d wear this untucked and tied up at the front but with for this ensemble it works tucked in to let the high-waist do it’s thing.
