Abba Vibes

WARNING: holiday spam for the foreseeable future. We’ve just returned from an incredible week in Albufeira, Portugal, and I’m suffering from some serious holiday blues. So what better way to cheer myself up than reminiscing about the long, pretty days, lazing by the pool, eating and drinking like kings (pun intended) and exploring the picturesque towns.

These images were shot in the streets around our amazing hotel Belver Boa Vista (which I would seeeriously recommend to anyone wanting to stay in this area – it’s unbelievable value for money, a fab location and the staff exceeded themselves) that lead into the stunning Old Town of Albufeira. The destination is laced with gorgeous architecture and quirky details, including beautiful churches, hidden pathways and interconnected side streets with cobbled steps, and dreamy beach views.

Buildings are white and intricately designed, and while the city’s amenities are traditional and cultural, tourism has fused them with modern necessities, such as the strip. You’re never too far from whatever kind of activity you desire – whether it be sangria (of which we consumed far too much), a bar, a seafood restaurant (the delicious speciality here, perks of staying near the port) or a relaxing cafe practically sitting on the beach. Independent stalls are interspersed with popular high street brands, traditional eateries are accompanied by foods to satisfy every possible craving (apart from a much lusted after jacket potato) and the buzz of the town is just minutes from the silence and serenity of the bliss countryside.

JUMPSUIT H&M (similar here) | MULES ASOS

I’m obsessed with this jumpsuit, and although I doubt I’ll get a lot of wear out of it (it’s the right kind of smart for evenings abroad, but I can’t see myself enduring a night out in Britain without sacrificing it forever) that’s okay, because it was only £4.50! I found it in one of the best recycling charity shops in Notts, White Rose, where it was brand new with tags from H&M but for a fraction of the price! It was a last-minute buy when I was meant to be saving the rest of my cash for euros (oops) but as such a satisfactory little bargain I couldn’t say no – and I knew it would work so well against the sunset. Case closed.

These mules I’ve raved about way too much already, but they were genuinely ideal for night-time and coped especially well with the uneven pavements. I wore them every evening except the last (despite hauling five pairs of shoes with me) because they’re super comfy, flattering to any outfit and the perfect heel height to add a dressy twist.

The simplicity of this ensemble is what I think makes it pop. I waited until I had a little glow to wear it, as it’s complimented best with a tan (or freckles and a sunburnt nose in my case). I was torn between adding my silk scarf, but decided it would have over-complicated and killed the natural look. I opted for subtle jewellery; just my thin gold necklace, watch and the earrings / rings I always keep on me. Albeit a tad see-through (going commando is not my favourite choice, but when duty calls…) it’s majorly comfy and the soft, silky material is soothing on the skin and surprisingly good quality. The thin waist-tie incorporates an elegant touch and the chic flared legs are possibly my fav aspect: light and floaty in the salty sea breeze and wonderfully figure enhancing, but mostly because I feel like I’m a member of ABBA… you can always count on those guys for some disco fashion inspo!

Although this jumpsuit was my prized evening garment, it would have worked as a beach cover up, or looked extra glam for a day exploring the city (with a big floppy hat, of course). I’m still marvelling at the fact I managed to eat an Indian dish without spilling anything down it – very unlike me – and still quietly sulking about not having another event to wear it to.

Thanks for reading! Watch this space for more holiday posts.
