Summer, you’ve been great, but Autumn is without a doubt my favourite time of year. Darker nights and colder days mean it’s time to cosy up, layer up and boot up – plus, best of all it’s drawing nearer to coat season! You can never rely on a British summer, but you can always count on a cold and rainy winter.
I’ve always wanted a leopard print coat, but am always stopped by the fear of not being able to pull off such a statement piece. Plus there’s the line of expense – it’s rare that you get a cheap faux fur coat that doesn’t look tacky, and the rest are wayyyy out of my budget. So, in a compromise I’ve settled for wanting subtle leopard print accessories to put the finishing touches to classic outfits instead: like these AMAZING (but now sold out) loafers from ASOS, or a classy little handbag. If I had the money I’d invest in the Claudie Pierlot shoulder bag (above) that I fell in love with in Selfridges a few weeks ago. Where’s that student loan at?
The AW Boots
I’m mentally preparing myself to swap my Birks for boots this month, and what better pair to ease me out of Summer mode than this chunky retro pair from Mango. Basically all of my boots are black, but it’s a hard habit to break and I like having the safety of knowing they’ll co-ordinate with my wardrobe.
Big jumpers are one thing you can never have too many of and right now colourful is cool – the uglier the better. Ideally I’d add to my collection with an Acne jumper, but unfortunately that’s an investment that’ll have to wait a few years. Instead I’ll settle for one of the hundreds of funky designs on ASOS Marketplace or wait for the next vintage sale to come around in Nottingham.
Highwaist denim skirt (Topshop)
They’re still cute, go with anything and work all year round with tights or without. Work, uni, nights out, this little skirt has your back. I have a blue button up one already but I’ll take this funky black version too, please.
Cross Body bags – all (Zara)
I’m in love with Zara’s new season cross body bags, and desperately need a new one instead of lugging a huge handbag around town with me after lectures. But with such a good selection I feel spoilt for choice and at the moment it looks like all or nothing!
Prada Sunglasses (Sunglass Hut)
Who says you can’t wear sunglasses in Winter? If I had these gorgeous Prada ones I’d wear them all year round, (day and night too, probably) sunny or not. It’s for the best that their sold out, though; as I’m trying to be a more sensible student I should spend my money on books and not £200 sunnies…right?…
Unplugged in New York
Unplugged in New York (available at Urban Outfitters)
My music pick this month is a Nirvana vinyl, in memory of one of the best bands ever and also as today celebrates Smells Like Teen Spirit’s 25th birthday. I grew up listening to whatever my Dad was listening to (mostly consisting of Aha, Pink Floyd and Kings of Leon) so much of my music taste these days is filtered down from bands like that. He had the Smells Like Teen Spirit CD and used to play it in the car on long drives, so it turned out that Nirvana was one of the first rock bands I got into, and still love. Kurt Cobain, we salute you.
Fringe Hem Flared Jeans (Topshop)
These fringed jeans are effortlessly cool and jazz things up a bit in an alternative to Mom or skinny jeans which have become so routine. I need a pair in my life to help me get over the fact festival season is gone for another year by incorporating a little bit of festival style into daily life.
Enjoy the rest of your September.
